SMTC Presents Dick Whittington
A Pantomime For All The Family

28th – 31st January 2015

Families and theatre goers in Salford may be a little surprised by the latest pantomime offering from award winning Salford Musical Theatre Company as the annual community pantomime transports audiences back to 14th Century London town to recount the tale of 3 times Lord Mayor Dick Whittington and his magic cat.

SMTC have given the pantomime their usual twist on events with comic characters filling the stage including Rover – Dick’s magic cat, who has obviously been watching too many TV adverts and wants to be more dog!

Man mad Sarah the Cook wants to find a nice rich boyfriend, Idle Jack is lazily obsessed with roses and Alice Fitzwarren, who doesn’t even notice. Her father, Alderman Fitzwarren is fed up of his shop being plagued by rats, and so is Sheik Dabooty of Abu Dhabi, who could be a dead ringer for TV’s Celebrity Juice host Keith Lemon and there are plenty more surprises in store for the cast and audiences as the evil King Rat tries everything to stop Dick being made Lord Mayor of London, including framing Dick for a crime he did not commit and sending his hordes of ratlings to eat everyone’s sweets and generally cause havoc!

Published UK Property Data For 2014 Suggests
A Record Start To The Year

Confirmation that the UK’s residential property market has returned to health is the first data from Rightmove covering 2014 which suggests that the year ahead looks good for property!

The Rightmove House Price Index (HPI) of 2014 shows that property asking prices increased by 1% in January.

Property prices are traditionally subdued in the first month of the year, prices increased just 0.2% in January 2013 and have usually fallen by an average of 0.2% in the month of January over the last decade.

The number of properties coming to market and activity is also up as both estate agents and property vendors look to cash in on the increased confidence in the UK property market.

Year on year property asking prices are up 6.3%, the highest annual rate of increase since November 2007, before the onset of the UK’s credit crunch.

UK Bailiffs Christmas Holidays

UK Bailiff Seasonal Amnesty

A seasonal reminder to landlords and letting agents that Bailiff Amnesty’s will begin around 12th December 2011 to the 9th January 2011. Please check your local County Court for more details.

The amnesty, which is not widely publicised, is implemented due to local authority offices, solicitors, courts and housing welfare organisations festive holiday closures.

Unfortunately for landlords, the festive season of good cheer can be one of the costliest periods due to an increase in rent arrears, especially from LHA tenants.

Up to the end of 2010, there were 995,000 LHA tenancies and rent arrears in this sector were thought to be in excess of £290 Million (GBP).

This year research indicates that there are now over 1Million LHA tenancies and with more changes to the Government’s Welfare Reform Bill due to be implemented on 1st January 2012, rent arrears are expected to increase further.

Landlords are urged to act fast when dealing with defaulting tenants, especially at Christmas as courts experience backlogs of paperwork and hearings in the New Year.
